What Seeds I’m Starting in 2021
It’s still not time to actually start seeds because I’m in Zone 6 and there’s currently snow on the ground. However, it is time to start going through my hoard to see what I’m planning on growing and if I need to order anything else. I always get questions about my starts, so I thought I’d share with y’all what varieties I’ll be starting, and why I picked them. I’m grouping them by type of vegetable.
Tomatoes

Amana’s Orange- BIG sweet light orange slicer

Black Krim- neat looking dark purplish red, juicy and flavorful

Black Vernissage- another cool looking striped dark purplish red, good producer

Chadwick Cherry- larger than normal cherry tomatoes

Cherokee Purple- pinkish purple sweet slicer, market favorite

German Strawberry- large red oxheart with old timey tomato flavor

Golden Jubilee- mild flavor, popular orange variety

Hillbilly Flame- beautiful red and yellow streaks, nice slicer

Jersey Devil- cool shaped pointy red, great flavor

Pineapple- *personal favorite* red and yellow marbling with delicious sweet flavor

Red Cherry- small red clusters, great for eating in the garden

Rio Grande-meaty red, good for sauces

San Marzano Tall Vine- great producing flavorful canning tomato

Watermelon Beefsteak- large old time slicer, good producer

Yellow Brandywine- large yellow slicer
Peppers

Baby Bell Mix- cute small sweet peppers perfect for market

Bull Nose- sweet heat, old timey type

California Wonder- sweet popular green bell

Fish Pepper- spicy unique looking striped pepper with variegated leaves

Golden Marconi- sweet yellow pepper, nice flavor

Peter Pepper- I think the look of this spicy pepper speaks for itself 😂

Santa Fe Grande- prolific bright colored peppers
Vining Crops

Crystal Apple Cucumber- interesting looking, mild flavor

Double Yield Cucumber- HEAVY producer, nice flavor
Boston Marrow Squash- sweet squash perfect for pies, puddings and bread

Delicata Squash- great for grilling and long term storage

Fordhook Acorn Squash-good for baking and stuffing

Moranga Squash- looks like a pretty pink pumpkin

Spaghetti Squash- great for low carb “pasta” meals

Sweet Dumpling Squash- sweet flavor, nice for baking or stuffing

Tromboncino Squash- resistant to squash pests, eaten when young and tender like summer squash
